Team 800 responded to Fitz Henry Road near Smithton to a tanker truck that reportedly spilled fluid along Interstate 70 and then under an overpass of the Interstate. The driver placed mitigation devices to slow the flow along the pavement and attempt to keep from entering catch basins. Emergency services were called and quickly requested HAZMAT to control the flow of the leaking tanker.
Route 70 was immediately closed and the adjacent truck stop was closed and requested evacuated as a precaution. Crews worked on scene for over four hours until it was deemed safe to open the highway and the trucking company could address cleanup of the incident.
